Arkansas Earthquake Center News - May 2001

Recent Earthquakes

A 4.4 magnitude event (red ball on the map) occured at 1:42:12 AM (CDT) on Friday, May 4, 2001. According to USGS, event coordinates are 35.24N Lat. and 92.23W Long. Location is 25 km (16 miles) NE of Conway,AR. Depth of epicenter is 10 km. Law enforcement agencies from Jonesboro to Pine Bluff reported they received calls about shaking. Spokesman for governor Huckabee said the earthquake was felt across a stretch of north, central and eastern Arkansas. The National Weather Service in Missouri reported the quake was felt in the southern portion of the state. There have been no report of damage (from AP).
